Running in the Rain

I don't really love or hate running in the rain.  Last week on my long run it rained for the last 6 miles of my 17 miler.  The rain cooled everything off quite a bit which was nice.  But I wasn't dressed for the rain - no hat and I wasn't wearing a tank so it was a bit heavy and uncomfortable.  But I did it - the whole run so now I'm happy.

I have perfected the "ugly" face for my self portraits. Ha.

I had a first on my run too - we always do water drops the night before so we don't have to wear fuel belts or carry water.  At one of the drops I left 2 Gatorade and 1 Powerade. And when we got there 2 of the 3 were gone.  So we got to share the last Gatorade.  Luckily, since it was raining we weren't too thirsty.

Last week's workouts:
Monday:  8 miles & crossfit
Tuesday:  spin & crossfit
Wednesday: 8 miles & crossfit
Thursday: 6 miles
Friday: 17 miles
Saturday:  watch my kids at their swim meet :)

I'm not ready for winter

I'm a little behind on my posts. Today I taught spin then ran 4 miles on the treadmill. Gotta burn those calories before Halloween tomorrow!!!

 Here is Saturday's post:

I feel like the cold came way too fast and early this year.  I'm being a baby about it and have no desire to run in it.  It takes all my energy to get my butt out of my warm bed and hit the pavement.  On Saturday we did 12 miles and when we started it was 30 degrees.  It took me 10.5 miles until I was warm enough to pull off my jacket and just run in my shirt.  (I know I'm being a big baby with all this complaining.)  Other than the cold the run was good.  I was nervous that the water I dropped off the night before would be frozen but it was just icy cold (why can't it be that cold in the summer....)  It's nice to go for a run without caring about times and just go because I love running.

I wore a fleece headband, a long sleeve fleece lined shirt, jacket and gloves.

I also tried something new this year and put a running skirt on over my tights to try to keep my rear warm - it seemed to help so I think I'll try that again.

20 Miles and Ugly Faces

I might make the ugliest faces known to man when attempting to show just how unhappy the weather on today's run made me.  I thought we were all making ugly faces....apparently only I did!

This time they look sad and again I've got my ugly face going on

We did our first 20 miler today (since the girls are both going somewhere very beautiful and warm for spring break...I might be VERY jealous).  Last night Todd asked me what time I was getting up to run when I told him we were leaving at 5:45 and running 20 miles he said I sure know how to make running sound not fun.  HA.

Anyways.....we knew the weather had the potential to be bad today but when I woke up it was clear and 37 degrees.  One of the running girl's husband drove us up the canyon so we could run the marathon course again and head straight home.  The further up the canyon we got we started to notice snow so we decided to jump out and start running.  It was pitch black on the highway (no street lights), windy, and there was hail coming down.  UGH!  It was crazy - the hail hurt so bad when it would pelt me in the face.  We jumped on the trail as early as we could and by mile 3 the hail turned to snow.  It snowed on us the rest of the run.  The weather was so bad today for our run it was almost funny.  We had to adjust our route on the run - good thing we run around town enough to know mileage home from just about anywhere :)

I thought it was crazy that there were no other runners out this morning. There are always runners out - the first runner I saw was at mile 15 then I saw one more guy at mile 19.  Apparently everyone else decided to stay inside this morning and wait until Utah decided to give us back spring.

I did a roctane GU at mile 8 and another GU at mile 15.  Drank 10 ounces of water and 10 ounces of gatorade.  All in all I felt pretty good - all things considered.  Average pace (with walking while taking GU's) was 9:04 pace.

Ice baths and footprints in the snow

Because I will be traveling a lot the next 2 weeks I decided to do my 14 miler today so I wouldn't have to do it on the road next week.  I ran up to the "starting point" did 10 with the running girls then ran home. When I woke up there was snow on the ground so and I really really really wanted to crawl back in bed.  But there is just no way to fit this run in so I was determined to get 'er done.  About 1/2 mile into my run I saw a lone pair of footprints in the snow.  It totally gave me the motivation I needed. I don't know how far or how fast the owner of those footprints was going and I don't care.  They put a smile on my face and I knew that I wasn't the only crazy one out today on a cold, dark, snowy morning.

When I got home my joints were hurting so despite how cold I was I decided to take an ice bath.  HOLY COW!  It was so dang cold.  I just used the ice from my freezer and a big frozen block of pebble ice that never melted all the way.  The girls were in the bathroom asking if they could get in and I told them to put a finger in the water to see if they really wanted to take an ice bath with me.  The answer was "no wonder you're freaking out mom".  Ha ha ha.  It was the longest 10 minutes ever.  But at least my knees and ankles felt better after it was done.

This weeks total mileage:  37 miles

Running to the beach

I was very lucky to get to run to the beach today.  My mother-in-laws house is so close to the beach that in order to get my 11 mile run in I had to add a few extra twists and turns.  The weather was perfect and it was so great to run in shorts and a t-shirt in December.  I left early then Todd packed up the kids and drove over to the beach.  I got there shortly after them and then we all got to play in the sun and sand.  I tried to stand in the freezing cold water to ice my ankles and knees - but it was just too cold. Even though the kids were soaked and having a ball. They are tougher than me.

Running in the Rain

This has been a very wet & cold spring. I am so sick of running in the rain. I hate my feet being wet and being wet and cold. I have to wear a hat or I can't see because I'm getting pelted in the eyes. People at work ask me why I run outside when it's raining. Well....if it only rained every once in a while I probably wouldn't. But it has been raining non-stop for weeks and I can't stop running, I don't want to run on a treadmill and I'd might as well get train in these conditions in case it's raining during the race.
